Goals: track OKRs with key results, milestones and linked tasks

The Goals module organizes goals by time horizon (Long-term, Mid-term, Short-term), measures progress via key results or manually, and connects every goal to milestones and tasks.

Prerequisites
  • You're signed in and your organization has the "Goals" module activated.
  1. 1

The five tabs at a glance

At the top of the module you switch between Overview, Long-term, Mid-term, Short-term and Milestones. The first three each show only goals of that time horizon, Overview aggregates everything into stats and charts, and Milestones lists every milestone from every goal (plus standalone ones created without a goal) in one table.

  2. 2

    Create a new goal

Click "Add" in a horizon tab (or on "Active goals" in the Overview) to open the goal dialog. Only the title is required; description, target date, status (Draft/Active/Paused/Completed), a parent goal (for a hierarchy across horizons), and a manual progress percentage are optional.

  3. 3

Progress: key results override the manual value

Once a goal has at least one key result, the displayed progress is automatically calculated as the average of every key result's ratio (current value / target value) — the "Manual progress" field from the goal dialog is then ignored. Without key results, only the manual percentage counts.

  4. 4

    Maintain key results

In the expanded goal card ("Details" at the bottom of a goal), add new metrics under "Key Results" via "Add" and click a current value to edit it inline (Enter confirms, Escape cancels). Each key result has a target value and an optional unit; the progress bar below it fills in automatically.

  5. 5

Attach milestones and tasks to a goal

In the same expanded view, add checkpoints under "Milestones" with a title and optional target date; their status (Upcoming, In progress, Completed, Delayed) cycles forward on each click of the icon. Under "Tasks", link existing tasks that aren't done yet and aren't assigned to any goal via "Link" — the link only runs one way, a task can only belong to exactly one goal.

  6. 6

    Manage milestones centrally

The "Milestones" tab shows every milestone from every goal in one table, filterable by status. "Add milestone" here also lets you create a standalone milestone with no goal attached (the goal field in the dialog is then optional). A milestone with linked tasks shows a "X/Y tasks" counter that expands or collapses the task list on click.

  7. 7

    Reading the Overview

The Overview shows four stat tiles (total count, active goals, average progress, milestones done/total), a donut chart of the status distribution, a bar chart of average progress per horizon, and the six least-progressed active/paused goals plus the next seven open milestones.

Common pitfalls
  • Key results fully override manual progress

Once you add key results to a goal, the manually set percentage disappears from the display — even though it's still stored in the dialog. To go back to manual control, every key result must be deleted first.

  • A task can only be assigned to one goal

The task picker when linking only shows tasks not already assigned to another goal. To attach a task to a different goal, it must first be unlinked from its current one.

  • A parent goal is purely organizational

A "parent goal" only shows as a reference arrow with the parent's title on the goal card — progress or key results are not automatically rolled up or inherited between them.
