Chat: channels, direct messages, slash commands and @-links

Chat runs across every organization you belong to in a single view — with channels and direct messages grouped per organization, slash commands for polls/tasks/meetings, and @-mentions that can link to almost any resource in the system.

Prerequisites
  • You're signed in; Chat is enabled per organization — the sidebar only shows organizations where the module is active.
  1. 1

    Sidebar: organizations as folders

On the left, the sidebar groups every channel and DM by organization, each as its own collapsible folder. If you belong to several organizations with Chat enabled, you see all of them in one list instead of switching between organizations.

  2. 2

Create a new channel or direct message

"+" opens the channel-or-DM dialog. With more than one chat organization, you first pick the organization — that determines which members are selectable. A channel needs a name, an optional description, and any number of members; a DM only allows a single target person (a radio button instead of a checkbox).

  3. 3

Hide a channel or organization instead of leaving

The eye icon that appears on hover over a channel or organization only hides it from the main list — it moves into the collapsible "Hidden" section below and can be restored from there with one click. This is not the same as leaving or deleting it.

  4. 4

Slash commands: poll, task, meeting, AI

Typing "/" in the message field brings up a menu of four commands: "/poll" opens a poll editor (question plus options) that posts as an interactive voting card in the channel; "/task" and "/termin" open quick-create dialogs for a task or a meeting without leaving Tasks or Calendar; "/ai" sends your message to the AI assistant and posts the reply directly in the channel — visible to everyone.

  5. 5

@-mentions link to almost any resource

Typing "@" opens not just the member list but a search across tasks, invoices, CRM leads, knowledgebase articles, projects, sprints, meetings, milestones and files at once. Typed prefixes narrow the search, e.g. "@task:" or "@project:". A chosen mention becomes a clickable chip with an icon that jumps straight to that resource.

  6. 6

Reach everyone in the channel: @all

"@all" isn't a real resource but a broadcast marker: it notifies every member of the channel regardless of their individual notification settings for it.

  7. 7

    Voice messages and file attachments

The microphone icon records a voice message and posts it as a playable player in the channel; the paperclip icon in the "+" menu attaches a file. Both work alongside regular text and images (with a lightbox preview).

Common pitfalls
  • Hiding isn't leaving

A hidden channel or organization only disappears visually from the main list. New messages keep arriving — check the "Hidden" section or restore the channel to see them.

  • "/ai" posts publicly in the channel

Unlike a private conversation in the AI Assistant module, the reply to "/ai" is a normal message in the channel — visible to every member, not just you.

  • @-prefixes only filter, they don't replace the picker

A prefix like "@task:" narrows the results to tasks but still opens the same combined search UI — without a prefix, "@" searches every resource type at once, which can cause mix-ups with ambiguous names (e.g. a project and a task with a similar title).

  • Channels are tied to exactly one organization

A channel or DM belongs permanently to the organization it was created in. Members without access to that organization can't be added there, even if they share a different organization with you.
